A few months ago I received a call from my friend Kahyzen; she wanted to know if I would be interested in participating in a 5K race just for fun. I told her to sign me up. I haven’t raced since my college days and this was a good excuse to get back in the game. I couldn’t have chosen a better race. The Color Run is a five-kilometer (5k) untimed race that celebrates healthiness, happiness, individuality and giving back to the community. Proceeds from the race are donated to a local charity in every city where a Color Run is held. Their tagline: “Be healthy. Be happy. Be You.“
The morning started with a great warm up session. I received my packet on the day of the race and it included a white t-shirt branded with the Color Run logo, a race bib, the Color Run tattoo, Color Runner headband and a packet of color. Excited, I put on my t-shirt and waited eagerly for the start. After a few more laughs and warmups the count down to the race began and we were off.
Alongside other runners, I laughed, shouted, gave each other runners high fives and received a couple myself. At each kilometer, we were blasted with dry paint. Some of us stopped and did a quick roll in the paint while others did push ups and we were off again to the next color station.
Kahyzen and I completed the race together and met up with our family members for the best post 5K party were we danced and celebrated with a mass throwing of fun summer colors. The unbelievable thing is that my son, Tiger, slept through the music and powder filled air. Around the girl brings you the event in images. Enjoy and join me next year!
