Home New York City By the Boat House

By the Boat House

New York City is a city of landmarks, each of them a monument to engineering and daring. The Empire State Building. The Statue of Liberty. The Brooklyn Bridge. The George Washington Bridge. Even Central Park. Many people may not realize that New York’s garden jewel is a wholly artificial ecosystem, a meticulously drained and irrigated swampland turned picturesque park. Despite its man-made nature, it remains deeply evocative of nature and naturalism and a New York City highlight attraction. Late Saturday, I went for an afternoon walk in Central Park and discovers what felt like a mini paradise. A few minutes after entering the park, on East 70th and 5th avenue, I stopped at Le Pain Quotidien for a hot cup of coffee. For a list of things to do in Central Park this Fall, download the Central Park Fall guide.
